Fitness Reincarnated

In addition to going back to basics and getting up 5:30 every morning, I will be resurrecting the ever-popular Fitness project… with a few twists.

Workout (In the previously-used style of the Colorado experiment, in which one set of each exercise is performed until failure.)
-Plate Neck Resistance
-Barbell Shrug
-Arnold Dumbbell Press
-Lying Triceps Press
-Dumbbell Fly
-Barbell Curl
-Wrist Curl
-Seated Cable Row
-Lat Pulldown
-Barbell Deadlift*
-Ab Exercises**
-Barbell Full Squat

*Due to my history of back problems, I will not be performing the deadlifts in the same style as the other exercises. Rather, I will slowly increase the repetitions and weight in a linear fashion.
**Because there are very few ab exercises which use weights, I won’t be able to document these as well. I will still indicate the type of exercise and number of repetitions completed, but it will change frequently and may not mean much.

Cardio
Three jogs per week, starting off at 20 minutes and increasing the duration over time. (Motivation needed. )

Diet
In a fit of insanity, I’ve also decided to become a dietary vegan. Cold turkey (or not, haha… ha). Quit laughing. ;)

Vegan? But why? Purely for health reasons. While I do have a certain level of compassion toward animals, I also have a certain level of compassion toward the food chain. However, I’ve done the research and it seems that as long as sufficient amounts of a few key vitamins are consumed (namely Vitamin D, calcium, Vitamin B12 and Omega-3 fatty acids [all of which I've got covered]), veganism leads to a longer and healthier life.

But you’re trying to build muscles, right? Where will you get the protein? From all of the plant foods I’m eating, of course. Look it up for yourself; plenty of plant foods contain more than enough protein for humans to live on. I’m not starving myself!

Cold turkey? Too hard! You’ll give up within a week! Actually, I don’t anticipate it being difficult at all. I’ve made a significant effort to eat healthier over the past several months, and already consume relatively few animal products. From what I can remember, the only trouble spots will be poultry, fish, and cheese.

I’ll be documenting the diet beginning tomorrow and the workout/cardio here beginning Monday. Stay tuned!
