About

Mission
Don’tASQ stands for “Don’t Accept the Status Quo.” As human beings, we like situations that are common and predictable. We exert some minimal amount of effort to fit ourselves into a life we’re comfortable in… and then we give up. We rely too much on the old (and frequently disproven) adage, “If if ain’t broke, don’t fix it!” We become too obsessed with making money, doing drugs, or watching American Idol to realize our own capabilities or the capabilities of those around us. At Don’tASQ, we prefer to write about a variety of topics, but it all (usually) ties into our central purpose. Our mission is to instigate positive changes in the common mindset, and positive changes in our own lives, in the hopes that others will follow. We’ll do whatever it takes to be successful — barring anything illegal, destructive, or just plain stupid. Basically, we’re here to change the world. It’s a lofty goal, but we know we’ll succeed, because our Kindergarten teachers never taught us how to fail.

History
Don’tASQ was created by a team of hard-working engineers after years of research and development. Okay, that’s a lie. Don’tASQ was conceived by a college student named Scott while he was in the shower (because all great ideas originate in the shower) and thrown together with very little preparation or thought. The website, originally known as Crazyscottie’s Ramblings, made its online debut on December 1, 2006 as a relatively uninteresting blog. Over the next four months, the desktop computer which hosted Crazyscottie’s Ramblings slowly became crankier, and Scott decided that it was time to rebuild it into a dedicated server. (It had always dreamed of becoming a server, and Scott enjoyed that type of thing anyway.) On April 1, 2007, Don’tASQ.com roared into a somewhat meaningful existence. Contrary to what its visitors would have liked to believe, Don’tASQ was not some kind of April Fool’s joke. In October of 2007, Scott finally caved in and bought a hosting plan with InMotion Hosting, and we’ve been there ever since.

Projects
Projects are… well, exactly what you might expect. When an author gets it in his crazy head to endeavor upon a relevant long-term (or longer-than-one-day-term) affair, a project is formed. At the time of this writing, five projects exist, two of which were undertaken before the April 1 launch. One of our goals is to build up traffic to the point where we can start some really cool interactive projects — i.e. you can participate, too.

Blurblog
The word “blog” is overused to the point of being hackneyed. Here at Don’tASQ, hackneyed just isn’t good enough. The Blurblog is kind of like how it sounds — a blog of blurbs — but it’s so much more than that. You won’t find irrelevant accounts of high school drama or family vacations. The purpose of the Blurblog, aside from keeping visitors updated on website changes, is to provide interesting articles or “blurbs” (for lack of a better term) related to our mission — and, of course, a bit of comic relief. In short, if it’s not on a project page, it’s probably here.

Authors
Currently, Don’tASQ is a solo operation, updated and maintained by Scott. Long-term plans will likely include some additional writers, but nothing is in the works at this time.
